Time for Some Bunny Love

Most of us prefer dogs and cats as pets.  You probably grew up with a beloved cat or dog and wouldn’t dream of going any other route.  How can you say no to the loving eyes of a puppy or kitten?

Sure they’re adorable but have you thought about a rabbit as a companion?  It’s not hard to argue that rabbits are equally adorable, and they actually make great pets, too!

Ricky Whitman, VP for Community Relations at the Pasadena Humane Society, attests to this. “Rabbits are terrific pets. You can certainly have them at home. They can even be litter box trained and they’re very, very affectionate and good pets.”

While you usually imagine rabbits in the country and living on farms, they do well in apartments. Their diet is pretty simple and low-key, too. “They need a diet of Timothy hay and the occasional treat of carrot tops or leafy greens. Grocery stores may even save some carrot tops for you, ” Whitman adds.

Pasadena Humane Society has an abundance of rabbits…all looking for a home and some love. “We have very young ones and we have adult rabbits. All different shapes, sizes, colors,” says Whitman.

You can adopt one rabbit for $15 and $20 for two. “We will make sure they are sterilized. They’ll be spayed or neutered before they’re taken home, so you won’t end up with more. And we’re also giving their nails a pre-trim in our clinic.”

Pasadena Humane Society’s new nail trimming clinic is perfect for rabbits and cats whose owners need a little help trimming their furry one’s nails (because you should never declaw).

For your soon-to-be pet rabbits, you can have their nails trimmed once a month. “And it’s only $8 for four paws,” adds Whitman.
