Furry Success Story: Pasadena Humane Society Saves “Thomas Jefferson”

Wednesday, August 24, 2016

A young ailing kitten named Thomas Jefferson has been nursed back to health after arriving at the Pasadena Humane Society over the fourth of July weekend.

Thomas Jefferson came in weighing just 1.5 pounds, suffering from a skin condition that caused fur loss, inflammation and itchy skin. Though sick, the cat’s spirit was not crushed as the staff soon realized we was outgoing and friendly.

However, the kitten’s condition was contagious to humans and the Human Society’s isolation ward was full, meaning they had to ask for outside help. After contacting their partners at VCA: A Breed Apart, a Pasadena-based animal hospital, they were told they had room for TJ in their isolation ward and offered to donate his treatment and care. He was taken to VCA, and over the next month, he received high-quality care from their staff and veterinarians.

At the end of July, TJ made his way back to the Human Society, and looked like a brand new kitten. He had grown to double his former size, had smooth skin and his fur had recovered from the skin condition he came in with. He was so much better, in fact, that we was adopted the same day he came back!

Renamed Figaro, he was adopted by the Mena family who wanted a playmate for their other cat and their son, Max.

“He is extremely affectionate and very playful,” said Patrisia Mena, the cat’s adopter, to the Humane Society. “He spends his time playing with our other cat and snuggling with everybody at home.”
