Have you grown tired of your regular spaghetti and meatballs for dinner? Or is your repertoire even less complicated and regularly come from a box?
With such a great variety of eateries in Pasadena, it’s easy to dine out every night and let those pots and pans get dusty.
Owner Ron Singh of New Delhi Indian Restaurant has a better idea. Recently, Ron generously shared his secret recipe for Kheer, his best-selling traditional Indian rice pudding, and a favorite vegan recipe, cauliflower with green peas.
Cauliflower with Green Peas
Ingredients:
1 head of cauliflower, roughly chopped
1 onion
1 tablespoon garlic
1 tablespoon ginger
2 fresh tomatoes, sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pinch of chili powder
Pinch of white pepper
2 cups of water
1/2 cup green peas
Preparation:
In a sauce pan, sauté onion, garlic, and ginger for 5 to 7 minutes. Add tomatoes, salt, chili powder, and white pepper. Pour water and cook for 10 minutes. Add cauliflower and green peas.
Kheer is easy to make and tastes divine. The distinct taste of Kheer is owed to the creamy milk base. Here’s what you need to do:
Kheer
Ingredients:
1 gallon of milk
1 cup (12 oz.) long grain rice
1 cup sugar
Cinnamon
Cardamom
Almonds
Preparation:
Boil milk and simmer for 45 minutes on low heat. Add long grain rice and sugar then stir to combine. Let this simmer for another 45 minutes on low heat. Add Cinnamon, Cardamom (traditional Indian spices), and almonds for texture.
If you’re not adventurous in the kitchen, don’t worry- Ron has got you covered.
