Armstrong Garden Centers invites California gardeners of all skill levels to its free upcoming classes. Each workshop will encourage attendees to nurture their green thumbs with a wide range of topics from poinsettias to paperwhites and fruit trees to rose pruning. Classes will be held at all 32 store locations throughout California.

Armstrong Garden Centers’ scheduled workshops for November 2015:

Saturday, November 14, 9:00 a.m. – Forcing Paperwhites and Amaryllises for the Holidays – Elegant flowers for the mantel and dining table are a holiday tradition. Armstrong experts will show participants the simple steps to floral success using techniques to stimulate bulb growth.

Saturday, November 21, 9:00 a.m. – Growing Cool-Season Vegetables and Herbs – Enjoy California’s second season of gardening. There’s a huge assortment of great-tasting veggies to plant for late fall, winter and early spring backyard harvests.

Sunday, December 6, 9:00 a.m. – Santa Barbara Wreath Make ‘n’ Take – Bring the welcoming, spirit of stylish Old California to your front door with a beautiful Santa Barbara wreath. Sunday, December 13, 9:00 a.m.Poinsettia Planters – Use a striking poinsettia to anchor beautiful holiday planters. Participants will be shown which plants combine best and how to care for them so they’ll look festive for all your holiday visitors.

Saturday, January 2, 9:00 a.m. – Designing with Houseplants – Armstrong will teach participants how to decide which plants will enhance your décor and how to take care of them.

Saturday, January 9, 9:00 a.m. – Rose Pruning – Armstrong Garden Centers will demystify rose pruning with each class and demonstration. Learn how pruning keeps plants healthy and promotes many gorgeous blooms.

Saturday, January 9, 11:00 a.m. – Fruit Tree Pruning – Pruning fruit trees is easy once you understand the basics. We’ll demonstrate the simple principles (citrus pruning is covered in our Citrus Care class later in the year).

Saturday, January 16, 9:00 a.m. – Starting Summer Veggies from Seed – Growing edibles from seeds is easy and fun–and very rewarding. We’ll show you how to start them off right and which ones will give you the best harvest.

Saturday, January 23, 9:00 a.m. – Rose Pruning – Armstrong Garden Centers will demystify rose pruning with each class and demonstration. Learn how pruning keeps plants healthy and promotes many gorgeous blooms.

Saturday, January 23, 11:00 a.m. – Fruit Tree Pruning – Pruning fruit trees is easy once you understand the basics. Armstrong Garden Center’s Instructors will demonstrate the simple principles (citrus pruning is covered in our Citrus Care class later in 2016).

Saturday, January 30, 9:00 a.m. – Grow Your Own Berries – Berries are easy to grow–even in small spaces. We’ll give you tips and techniques for scrumptious success.

Saturday, February 6, 9:00 a.m. – Rose Pruning – Armstrong Garden Centers will demystify rose pruning with each class and demonstration. Learn how pruning keeps plants healthy and promotes many gorgeous blooms.

Saturday, February 6, 11:00 a.m. – Fruit Tree Pruning – Pruning fruit trees is easy once you understand the basics. We’ll demonstrate the simple principles (citrus pruning is covered in our Citrus Care class later this year).

Saturday, February 13, 9:00 a.m. – Orchids are Easy – Orchids look exotic, but their care is easy. Armstrong Garden Centers will show participants the best way to water, feed, get them to rebloom and repot–all you need to know for beautiful orchids.

Saturday, February 20, 9:00 a.m. – Creating a Fairy Garden – Create small fantasy worlds with miniature plants and figurines. It’s fun, easy and therapeutic. The best plants to use will be demonstrated and how to get started.

Saturday, February 27, 9:00 a.m. – Organic Gardening for Beginners – Learn everything you need about starting your own organic garden. We’ll focus on building soil health and problem-solving using organic products and techniques.

Each class will be instructed by a nursery professional who will offer timely gardening advice and hands-on demonstrations. Advance registration is not required to attend any classes except for the Santa Barbara Wreath Make ‘n’ Take class. Classes are open to gardeners of all levels. Armstrong Garden Centers offers free garden talks from its team of experts for local garden clubs, homeowners associations and other community groups.
