Energy efficiency is on the tip of everyone’s tongues and it has both commercial and residential applications. Energy efficient lights have even more benefits than a smaller electricity bill.

Pasadena Now spoke with Joe and Barbara Morales of Sonny Electric to shine a light on some of the reasons to switch to LED lights.

LED lights have been a growing trend in both business and home use. Barbara had LED lights in her own kitchen and explains that they really helped brighten the room. “The best thing is that they don’t get hot,” she adds.

An added benefit of LED lights is their long life. According to The Department of Energy, LED can have a useful life of 30,000 to 50,000 hours or more — meaning more savings and less light bulb changing. They are also “smarter” than incandescent light bulbs and can work with dimmers, wireless switches and motion detectors.

“Another thing to do is put timers on your outdoor lights, that way they’re not on all night,” said Joe. They can also be motion activated and provide a measure of security by eliminating shadows.

Also, LEDs are more flexible in color. You can choose from warm light, cool light or any shade in between. This is a handy option for setting a mood, or complimenting your home of office decor. Show off your space in style with lights and make brighten up your day.
